La Jefa

La Jefa takes a look at the two sides I see of my mother. La Jefa translates to the boss in Spanish a nickname that came from the employees at the restaurant she and my father established. Lidia came to the United States in 1997 and opened her first restaurant in 2001, the second in 2006 and now a third in 2026. I grew up knowing the loving nurturing side of my mother and her strong decision making side in our home life. In 2016 I started working at the second location and came to realize her commitment to having a successful business. In this series my goal was to capture her strength as a Jefa but also show the loving nurturing moments at home. (work in progress)
